To apply this patch, extract and overwrite the contents of the self-extracting EXE file into the folder where the game is installed, overwriting any files that already exist. This update is recommended for all users.

Q. I have trouble hearing voices in the game.

A. First of all, note that some characters in Brave Soul don't feature game voices, e.g. Jim or minor characters you encounter on missions. If you don't hear voices at all, it could be a problem with your installation. There is known to us that the game CD is not readable by certain CD/DVD drives. If you still cannot hear voices after updating DirectX and sound card drivers, this is most likely the issue. Please check if the voice file (filename is voice.pck in the "voice" folder in the game) is the same size as the one on the game cd. If the size of the voice.pck file on your hard drive is less than the one on the CD-ROM (268 mb), that will be the indication. Please try to reinstall the game on other CD/DVD drives if you have more than one drives, or alternately, copy the brave_s folder off the CD manually. If it still doesn't solve the problem, please contact us at support@peachprincess.com and we will get you a replacement file. Please be sure to have the identification number written on the CD-ROM ready for verification to avoid delays.

Q. I have Sound Blaster Live! as my sound card, and Brave Soul is very unstable

A. There have been issues for many PC games in general in terms of conflict with Sound Blaster Live! cards. For XP users, make sure you download the newest XP drivers from Creative's website. In addition, you can try changing the midi drivers via Control Panel and click on Sound. Then change the MIDI playback setting to "Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth".

Q. When viewing the opening movie from the main title menu, there is audio but no video (for Windows XP users)

A. This is an issue with the Indeo Video Codec that Microsoft normally includes with their systems. There is a patch that can be applied for Windows XP users. Updating Windows Media to the most current version may solve the problem. Alternately, click here for more information on this patch by Microsoft. You can also run Windows Update to download the patch automatically.

Q. I want to change my startup settings (Full Screen/Window etc) but I clicked on the check box on the bottom left of the dialog box and it will not show up again.

A. There are two ways to reactivate the startup dialog box. One is to start the game, select CONFIG in the main menu, and choose ON for "start option". You will have to restart the game for the dialog box to reappear again. The second (and probably more convenient) option is to press and hold the SHIFT button on your keyboard when you execute the game. This will always activate the startup options menu.
