Version 1.1: A patch that updates the current release of X-Change 3 to ver. 1.1 is ready. The patch fixes several grammatical errors that made it into the game. In addition, some lines that had not been translated in the original have been restored. To install, simply copy the .CWP files into the 'cg' folder and the other files into the game install directory (top level). Please report problems with the new version to us. Due to limitations in the original game data, this game require that East Asian Fonts be installed, if not installed already. Thus, the games require Windows 2000 or XP (Home or Pro) or Vista (any version) in order to run correctly, although users of older Microsoft OS machines may find that tools that make Japanese display in non-Japanese systems also enable this game to work. It is very easy to set up your computer to display text properly. Here are the detailed instructions:
- After normal installation, open the Regional and Language Options control panel and click the Languages tab. Check "Install files for East Asian languages" (your Windows install CD-ROM may be required depending on your installation setup.)
- Next, you need to set the game to use the correct fonts. There are two ways to accomplish this.
- Method one: (simplest) After East Asian fonts are installed, go to the Regional and Language Options control panel again, go to the Administrative (in Vista), Advanced (in XP), General (in Win2000) tab, and choose Japanese as your location. This will enable the game to display the font as intended. This method is very easy to do, although it requires a restart. Also, some web pages could conceivably display in Japanese on your computer. You can change the region setting back to your preferred region at any time.
- Method two: (best overall) Download AppLocale, a Microsoft utility that will allow you to set just an application (X-Change 3) to load with specific font settings. Launch AppLocale, choose either the XC3.exe application, and select Japanese as the language (the bottom option in the list of languages). This will enable the English fonts in the game to display correctly without any interruption in your computer's settings. You can also create an alias in your Start menu which will enable you to load the game with the new settings automatically
Note that if you don't apply one of these two methods to your system, the game will work, but fonts will display strangely, appearing stretched and too wide.
